Fading Graffiti
02:58
|
|||
what calls is the call
made from oblivion to me
a hollow in the willow
fading graffiti
fading graffiti
now
who cries in the east wing?
what name did they give me?
it resides on the west wall
in fading graffiti
fading graffiti
now
just let me hear the sounds
of wind chimes and ring box hinges
each opens a door
i can go through
more than one at once
when i want to
each opens a door
i can go through
more than one at once
when i want to
fading graffiti
now

Winter Sings to Fall
03:23
|
|||
all of the leaves on the trees in the yard are in love
with the way you move
among them again
all of the leaves on the trees are in love
and they’re dying to fall at your feet
and all the green’s been traded in for fool’s gold again
look what you made...
you find a pattern in the branches
you trace it out with naked fingers
while a bitter winter watches
from a window you don’t see
(some moon-shaped hole cut from the sky)
look what you made
spider season is here again
we're all standing on top of our chairs
we are waiting to know the cost of the web
they're weaving below
you can hear the leaves sing as they go:
you owe me
for how much i love you
for how much i love
you
owe me

having discovered ayahuasca
the one the grifter had his eyes on
says the crown of his skull
has touched god's chin
i say love is not permission
to reinterpret angelsong
and though love may be a vision of the future
you can't trust the rusted wheel that sings
“baby don't go, oh, baby don't go
the crown of your skull could touch god’s chin”
just let me kill this day
one daydream at a time
who you gonna be now
who you gonna be now
and now...
who you gonna be now
you’re not gonna listen to me
you’re not gonna listen to anybody
but a house where you lose yourself
is a house where you can lose anybody else
let us whip off our skin
the spiders that fall from the ceiling
they’ve come for the children
to whisper in their ears
“baby don't go, oh, baby don't go
the crown of your skull could touch god’s chin!”
but the leaf will still turn yellow
and the eye will still turn red
and those tired old arms will still eventually turn against you
having discovered ayahuasca
the one the grifter had his eyes on
having discovered ayahuasca
the one the grifter had his eyes on
says “baby don't go, oh, baby don't go
if you can save me i can save us both!”

River River
02:05
|
|||
the future is just rain
the past is just rain too
the river runs just here
where i am here with you
i used to dream of gold
now all i have to say
river river
while i am still willing
wear me away
river river
while i am still willing
wear me away
where i am now
wear me down
and away
so part the reeds of memory
and let them close again, a tired eye
now that we allow the rain to break us down and bring us back to life
to you, a leaf gold i'll hold until it's all that remains
river river
while i am still willing
wear me away

Wasted Energy
03:16
|
|||
what is this lip and fang that trembles
take it out of me
this eyeing up of all the angles
and the way it follows me around
wasted energy
there's nothing here to tear to shreds
there never has been
boots on your ground...
i see my face upon the guard dog
dying by the gate
behind the gate's an ordinary day
but it's a princely life for me!
wasted energy
there's nothing here to tear to shreds
there never has been
furious and stupid
everything in demon form
god what was i thinking
waving goodbye
and standing right in front of you
is my heart so bent in
like a cat curled up at your feet
is my mind just a mirror
making rainbows on the wall
is that all...

The Moon and the Dream
02:38
|
|||
under the overpass last night
the moon sat alone and cried
the feeling of dissatisfaction
familiar like an evil sister
high and wide-eyed
a dream came round the corner
threw its clothes into the river
said: now who's the wretched figure
and the moon replied:
why does summer always seem as though we're going nowhere
or as though the part with meaning is already over
they watched the fabric slip downstream
a casket on the water

Serena's Kills
03:02
|
|||
do you sometimes feel like a ghost
or like the day is just a candy-colored pill to swallow
melting away in the mouth of tomorrow
melting away in tomorrows fucking night
if we could call the night serena
then we could count serena's kills
she holds a mirror to your dreams and
she shows you nothing but a black and burned out sky
serena's kills
serena's kills
serena's kills are getting bad again
beside the bed there is a body on the floor
rebuking me from where it's done a thousand times or more
each hour is a copy of the one before
another ghost floats past the dial
serena's kills
serena's kills
serena's kills are getting bad
the morningbird sings
"maybe she won't find you"
but it always sings
and she's always close behind you
but with all this evening kills
it's not quite writing on the wall
baby we can have it all
more or less
when my legs give way beneath me
you can catch me as i fall
baby we can have it all
more or less
if we could call the night serena
we could count serena's kills
watch our watercolors burn
red-yellow-green
and on my knees i'll say
"with all the dreams inside a day
they can never make them all
serena's kills"

One at a Time
04:27
|
|||
don’t turn your thoughts into thorns
don’t turn the horses into unicorns
just let a person say they think that it’s okay
when the sun gets eclipsed by the moon
don’t turn their tongue into a tune
haunting a bluejacket’s head
just let them be a kind of song that just
kind of goes along until the needle hits the edge
the one that lets you die
is the one that brings you back to life
like the vinyl spinning silently
when the dancing’s done
when the dancing’s done
and nothing sacred has come
you should lie, you should die
by their side
and when a maniac thinks that you’re more than you are
and when you think that we’re all nihilistic at heart
and when you travel through time just to watch
a cyclone of words cycle back into your head
or when you travel through time for no reason at all
we travel through time
one at a time...
one at a time...
nobody wants to be a thorn
nobody wants to be a unicorn
we all just want to say we think that it’s okay
that the moon’s not in love with the sun
nobody wants to be the one
haunting the maniac’s head
we all just want to be the bomb
we just want to be the bomb
exploding everything we ever regret
having said
the one who lets you die
is the one who brings you back to life
you’re the vinyl spinning silently
when the dancing’s done
when the dancing’s done
and nothing sacred has come
you should lie, you should die
by their side

Crossroads
04:34
|
|||
i've been watching too many horror movies these days
and we've been talking about moving forward in any way that we can
now they've gone and made a portrait of an actual black hole
so i am riding the rings of saturn with this whip gripped in my hand
coming up to the crossroads...
have you ever seen a set of greener fields?
each is like a body you would chew to the bone
wouldn't you just die to be alone?
i've been watching too many horror movies these days
and we've been talking about moving forward in any way that we can
i'm at the point where i can't see the point of making music anymore
won’t you tell me again how i’m some kind of healer?
i don't think i've ever looked so good between two mirrors
each way is like a star i swear i was born under
now they've gone and made a portrait of an actual black hole
which of course is just a portrait of a god that wants to swallow us all whole
coming up to the crossroads...

i had a good time just hanging around the house with you all month
i'm not moving anymore
i felt actual peace, and i felt actual love
pin a wing above the door
a bathtub and a laptop showing shows that we've both seen
i'm not moving anymore
getting high and painting watercolors for each other
pin a wing above the door
and hold the other to the mirror
it makes a different kind of wingspan
a book we've opened to the center
a second half that we have yet to understand
shoveling snow for hours just so we could throw a party
i'm not moving anymore
selling out my music just in case we have a baby
pin a wing above the door
sleeping by the fire, by the dog, in the day
i'm not moving anymore
crying to the radio while driving to the lake
pin a wing above the door
hold the other to the mirror
it makes a different kind of wingspan
a book we've opened to the center
a second half that we have yet to understand
pin a wing above the door...
all bright angel park all for us on christmas day
the ring around the moon like a jewel on new years eve
listening to the geese as they fly over by the hundreds
flying in a giant v across the estuary
just us and the dog, we were all as still as stones
i'm not moving anymore
pin a wing above the door...
hold the other to the mirror
it makes a different kind of wingspan
a book we've opened to the center
a second half that we have yet to understand
